Service Description

The foundation of this curriculum presentation draws on personal experiences and utilizes performance to bring out the poignant beauty of classic poetry and modern day music genres including blues, jazz, rhythm and blues and rap. The use of relevant pedagogical approaches through cultural versions of folktales, portrayals or book characters and use of popular texts ranging from picture to chapter series are shared. The quest for freedom and self love are emphasized through cultural values and images. Ethnic Melodies increases and improves reading comprehension, increases student engagement and helps practitioners utilize culturally responsive practices including cultural values and morals, pedagogical approaches, material selections and much more! *6 culturally responsive literacy categories with 21 lesson plans *Supports the development of the understanding of students' literacy legacies *Lessons focus on relationships, engagement and learning *Provides models for students to "See and Be" their "Possible Selves" *Builds fluency, use of context clues, main idea, character analysis, vocabulary development, sequencing, text to text connections, making inferences and drawing conclusions *Helps student understand "why they should read" *Blends African American history and literacy instruction
